The rise of the 600 miles of the Pacific with west of Ecuador are arid islands whose name, for obvious reasons, is a Spanish word for the tortoises. Indeed, the Galapagos Islands are famous for the tortoises weighing of the hundreds of books. Many people do not know, however, is that the attractive creatures also live in an underwater kingdom with the broad one. Describing contrast between the islands and their spoils in a submarine of the book 1924, Galapagos: World' S End, William Beebe wrote: " l' host of sally-lightfoots [crabs of tide] were the most brilliant points of color above of l' water in the islands, putting to make shame with the dull colours dull of the terrestrial organizations and referring to the glory of the animal life coloured under sea surface”...
Four currents converge in water of Galapagos: Peru or Humboldt coming from the south, the equatorial one of l' west, theequatorial one and Panama. Poisson and of the invertebrates in various oceans and to assemble l' habitat of these currents and quickly to go to the house along the rock coasts, on a sea-bed of sand, and in the forests of mangroves of l' archipelago of Galapagos. Among the creatures most ludic, here the otaries. Splitting l' water at a fulgurating speed, they to some extent carry out sometimes an underwater ballet, to twist, turn, stretchings, and tendency to arch the elegant body medium of the clouds of plankton. A sea lion to the stroke with a few centimetres d' a diving mask, like if l' d' approaches; a kiss, or it will be to nibble a stroke with fins or to embrace the plunger with its palms, while maintaining a contact visual, a technique which requires an incredible flexibility and d' agility. A marine monster of the size d' a school bus also lives in water of Galapagos: the shark whale. Larger fish in the sea, it nourishes plankton and of fish with severely tested of l' water by its mouth. Although the meetings with him are rare here, meetings with d' other sharks are not. Six to eight feet of long shark-hammers, with the head in the shape of hammers sledgea, to swim in the schools d' a hundred or more. White-tip, Galapagos, and the sharks bull, largest qu' a man, are seen by almost each explorer who penetrates in this water. To obtain photographs d' them whereas the diving is difficult, however, because the bubbles d' a plunger seem to frighten them.

Left the inhabitants most improbable of equatorial water are Galapagos Penguins. Only here and along the Peaceful coast d' South America the penguins live close to l' equator. They folds this water with a great facility, driving out fish and by avoiding the sharks. Out of l' water, they May being considering dandling itself by the way on the volcanic rocks of l' island. Another single animal which is l' marine iguana, a pipe cleaner lizard cuts whose features distinctly reptiliens are adaptations for its life in Galapagos: it uses its muzzle rounded to scrape the algae of submerged rocks, it is recovered feet to seize the slipping rocks, its muscular body and tail to swim in the strong tides, and its spines to defend oneself against the predatory ones. Although l' archipelago has many miracles, it does not lay out d' a coral reef. Instead of that, plunger to find dramatic rock formations volcanic underwater. Some d' between them are naked, d' others are covered by red algas, oranges and d' establishment of the costs of sponges, corals of the Cut d' orange, and of the black coral bushes. One of the reasons of the low number of corals builders of reefs is a weather phenomenon called El Nino. Periodically, El Niño is an incursion of l' water which is low in nutrients and exceptionally heat, these conditions are unfavourable for the corals and the plankton. El Nino causes also rains d' to increase, and by great d' quantities; fresh water added to l' sea water are prejudicial with the growth of the corals.

Conversely, these seas occupy a high number of fish-300 species, of which 17 percent are endemic. Among them, the hawkfish hieroglyphic, a bas-Dweller which seems to have symbols engraved on its body, and the platax lipstick, with the fashion of the lips model red. Without surprise, l' archipelago attracts many fishermen. Although the zone is protected by a decree from 1986 from the President who makes the Reserve of marine resources of it, it is still the site of illegal fishing. Guards of the park do not lay out quite simply the essential resources to patrol nearly 30.000 miles square. Fortunately, l' effort of conservation strong, is directed partly by the owner of the ships of diving of living on board, Herbert Frei, Jr., which says qu' a plan is in hand to provide means of subsistence of the fishermen, all in n' not affecting significantly the submarine habitat. Efforts are also in hand to save the terrestrial animals of l' island, in particular tortoises. Because their shells are sizes and the different shapes with cupola, saddle-back, or between the two, these soft giants, before, were regarded as members of several species. In fact, it n' ya qu' only one species, and it was almost destroyed by the hunting and the destruction of l' habitat. Aujourd' today, the scientists of the Research station Charles Darwin work to protect and, in certain cases, to reintroduce the giant tortoises in zones more distant from l' archipelago. Fortunately, some 750.000 birds can always be found among the islands. Flycatcher, the mockers, the yellow warblers, the falcons, owls, and these birds are common. Jusqu' now, 19 species d' marine birds, including the blue-footed Booby, Red-footed Booby, bird frigate, and l' Albatross. When naturalized Charles Darwin came to Galapagos in 1835, he noticed that the animals of the same species had l' different air on various islands. Years later, it developed a revolutionary theory of l' evolution and wrote L' Origin of the species by means of the natural selection. What could it thought s' he had also seen the remarkable creatures in the surrounding sea islands?
