The High Dam is located just south of the city of Aswan in Egypt.
HISTORY:
The high stopping was built not only to control the annual rising of the Nile, but also to create a tank d' water able to store l' water to avoid the famine during the severe drynesses. The construction of the stopping started in 1960 like a national project, undertaken by Egyptian president Nasser who nationalized Suez Canal required funds for the project. With l' American and the British refusal to guarantee a loan for construction, they are the Soviets who conceived the structure of the ground and provided l' equipment necessary to the construction of the power station.
 During construction, provisions were made to repatriate the inhabitants of Nubie, and, in a multinational effort, to move the Large Temple d' Abou Simbel. In 1970, the stopping d' Aswan was inaugurated by president Sadate. Aujourd' today, the tank called span the lake Nasser with approximately 500 kilometers through the Sudanese Egyptio-border. In spite of the ecological problems caused by the stopping, it was a blessing for the Egyptian community.
It left the country not touched by the dryness which struck l' Africa during the end of the year 1980, and, in the years 1990, saved Egypt, several floods surprisingly high. A regulated agricultural system is from now on places from there, and, in 1996, for the first time, l' water in the lake Nasser passed above the level of discharge. Plans are in hand in order to populate the area along the outfall of Toshka and to create new communities along the Zayed channel recently built in the middle of the desert of the Sahara.
